Kent has dedicated the last forty years of his practice to supporting design professionals in the drafting and negotiation of their contracts, the resolution of design and construction phase issues, and the litigation, arbitration and mediation of virtually every type of dispute that arises in connection with the design and construction process.  In addition to being regularly entrusted to advise and guide his clients in a variety of matters outside of the courthouse, he has successfully tried numerous cases through jury verdicts and bench judgments in the State and Federal Courts of Georgia and South Carolina, and has handled a variety of cases through arbitration awards.

Kent chairs CSVL’s Design Professional Practice Group, sharing the benefit of his long and varied experience with the other six Partners and numerous Associates who, spread across the firm’s offices in Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee, provide the same breadth of professional services to design professionals in those States. As a whole, the firm greatly appreciates the Panel Counsel relationships it has developed and maintained with all of the major insurance carriers who write E&O coverage for Design Professionals, in addition to the pleasure of directly representing and advising many of the leading architecture and engineer firms in the Southeast.

Kent’s practice has also involved the representation of other parties to the construction process, including large general contractors in complex cases alleging construction defects, as well as the representation of attorneys when they are sued in connection with their professional activities.  When not litigating on someone’s behalf, Kent has served as a mediator for others in over 150 cases and has provided enlightening and educational content through presentations to A&E firms on topics of current interest to their practice.

Since 2004, Kent has been an honoree on the Georgia Super Lawyers® list published in Atlanta Magazine/Law and Politics Magazine. In 2008, 2009, and 2010, he was honored on the Georgia Super Lawyers® list as one of the top 100 attorneys in the state.  Kent has been named to the list of South Carolina Super Lawyers® since 2008.  Since 2006, Kent has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America®, and in 2015 he was named Construction Law – Lawyer of the Year, Charleston.  Kent is also AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
