J. Patrick Norris

Partner / Charleston

Patrick is a partner in CSKL’s Charleston office and recently celebrated his ten year anniversary with the firm.  Patrick’s practice focuses heavily on professional liability defense, design/construction litigation and general liability/personal injury defense.  Patrick handles cases at trial and appellate levels, in both state and federal court.  Patrick also provides non-litigation support to his many design professional clients, including contract drafting and review, navigation of subpoenas, and legal advice related to emerging industry issues.  He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences across the county, including events for The Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM), American Institute of Architects (AIA), and local/regional trade organizations.  Patrick is a principal presenter at CSKL’s annual Risk Management Seminar for Architects and Engineers.

Patrick was selected as one of the Super Lawyers Rising Stars® in South Carolina from 2016 to 2019.  This is a peer-nominated award and no more than 2.5% of attorneys in each state receive this designation.  In 2018 and 2019, Patrick was honored as one of the top construction attorneys in the area by Charleston Business Magazine’s “Legal Elite” Feature, another peer-nominated award.

Patrick graduated cum laude from Clemson University with a degree in Financial Management and summa cum laude from Charleston School of Law.  He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, the Charleston Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association (SCDTAA).  He is a graduate of CLM’s three-year Claims College program in the School of Construction Claims and earned his Certified Claims Professional (CCP) designation.  Created and taught by some of the insurance industry’s best and brightest, the Claims College is instrumental in keeping practitioners like Patrick at the forefront of their fields.

Patrick grew up in the Lowcountry of SC and has been in Charleston for twenty years.  In his spare time, Patrick enjoys writing and playing music, playing golf, and traveling with his wife and three children.
